Time to Write Again

When my mind is particularly busy, I like to write out my thoughts on post its

I've been spending too much time thinking lately, not enough doing. My perfectionist nature sometimes makes it difficult for me to share something I feel is unfinished—but I'm pushing against that impulse. I want to get more ideas out of my head and into the world.

Moving forward, I want this space to feel more authentically “me” — more aligned with what I truly care about. So what do I want to write about? I have a few ideas.

Fun. I want to talk about things I think are fun. I love classic games. The kind where all you need is a deck of cards—or maybe access to a printer. I also want to spotlight games you don't need a printer for. I want to talk about the joy in simplicity, and how we can make more types of fun accessible to more people. I want to talk about ideas that excite me. Trends I see in gaming.

Development. I want to take you behind the scenes on some of the games I’m working on. Both to share my process, and to gather feedback on my efforts. I plan to take one of my favorite concepts, from start of prototype to finished published game.

Language. I've always been fascinated by language. I had speech therapy as a kid, which planted something deep—this need to understand how people communicate. What clicks, what confuses, what connects. That curiosity has helped me edit more than 100 rulebooks. But I don't want to talk just about rules and clarity. I want to share poetry, music, and ideas about expression. I love linguistics and etymology, and I want more of that present here too.

Philosophy. My most authentic post so far was about grief. I'm no stranger to sadness—loss, depression, the quiet kinds of hardship that don't make for easy conversation. But I've come through it, and I want to share what I've learned. At different times in my life, I've turned to the Stoics and existentialists—not just for comfort, but for clarity. I want to share that part of my thinking more openly. I want to share thoughts that have given me comfort, motivated me, or inspired me in some way.

Waste no more time arguing what a good man should be.
Be one.

Expertise. One of my favorite cognitive experiences is recognizing expertise in others—people who have deep insight, clarity, and care in their craft. I want to uplift and promote voices I consider to be thought leaders in my industry. I recently picked up a series of books by game designer Geoffrey Engelstein, who is certainly one of those experts. I plan to share my thoughts and reactions to his writings as I read through them.

Eventually, I hope this space will branch out in other ways too. Which as of yet are too early on to discuss. But might bear fruit someday soon.

Thank you for reading. Be back soon.
